Below are some frequently asked questions, along with our answers.

Why Royal Hacking Lab? Opportunities?
  • It is a privilege to complete thesis work in a research lab (particularly Royal Hacking Lab)

  • Some students are offered to have seats in our laboratory during the study

    • Selection is based on various criteria (full-time study or publication desire)
  • Working in the lab provides a significant environment

    • A unique mentoring service (e.g., weekly meetings)
    • Being a part of a team containing selected students
  • We may offer 2, 3, 6, or up to 12 months of full time paid work after thesis work (If we have funding)

    • This is only valid for those who wants to publish a paper in the lab
    • You will most likely extend your thesis work during this period
  • Help find PhD position/internship/first job


I have sent my proposal, what is next?
  • Applications are not evaluated immediately upon receipt

  • Evaluation begins when a sufficient number of applications for a particular thesis are collected

  • The right candidate is then selected from the group of applicants

  • Selected candidates are invited to interviews

  • Interview dates are not set in advance

  • Those selected for supervision are informed within two weeks of the interviews

  • If we are unable to supervise you (e.g. if the quota is exceeded), we can inform you of possible supervisors

  • You can then use your proposal to apply for another supervisor


How long does to take to process resource access applications?
  • We can process properly drafted submissions swiftly.

  • We usually grant card and key access in 2-3 weeks.

  • We usually make an existing device available to you in 2-3 weeks.

  • We usually complete the procurement of a new device in 4-5 weeks.

  • Asking for the status of your submission can not speed up the process.

  • We are unable to get back to you timely about the mistakes (especially approvals and confirmations) in your submission.


Is master's work is paid job?
  • Our master’s thesis studies are not a paid job unless otherwise stated. If we collaborate with a company, they usually pay. Every company has their policy like paying every month or at the end of the study.

  • Apart from that, we select best studies and offer at least 2 months full paid summer work to transform thesis work to an academic paper.


How long does to take to process temporary lab visit requests?
  • We usually book a lab visit in 2 weeks.


Why am I not getting response for my application?
  • If you are not getting response in 4 weeks, you most probably did not apply properly, For example, you did not attach your proposal or CV.


I would like to hack a device that is not on your list of available devices

How many proposals can I submit for a thesis?
  • Note that due to high number of submission, we are able to evaluate only one submission per student during his/her education career.


Do you require Swedish citizenship?
  • Our collaborators may require Swedish citizenship. However, we do not include this information on pre-proposals. That’s why feel free to send your proposal. If we like it we can start a separate study with you.
